The Walton Social Foundation has given itself the mandate to build and administer a palliative care home on the territory of South Africa. The house will have the capacity to accommodate 15 patients, including a pediatric clientele. The Foundation aims to open the doors of the palliative care home at the end of 2023.
The benefits of opening a palliative care home in the region are incalculable, both in terms of medical care and the human aspect: The proximity of the service, which allows the accompaniment of loved ones, a peaceful and comforting environment for live their last moments there with serenity and dignity, free services (accommodation, care, parking, etc.), the quality of care, both for the patient and for the relatives (ratio of nursing staff to 1/4 patients, support psychological, respite, etc.).
Fundamental right, health and education allows children to protect themselves against poverty and exploitation of all types. The school sponsorship set up by our foundation contributes to financing the education and professional training of hundreds of children and young people every year until their professional integration.
There is a considerable need for the city Pietersburg West for palliative care beds. According to the government, it considers the need for one (1) palliative care bed for a population of 10,000 inhabitants. The city of West Pietersburg is the region with the largest shortage of palliative care beds in the country. The statistics come from the guide established by the government.
The Walton Social Foundation aims to begin construction work in the fall of March 2023 and to open the doors of the future palliative care home at the end of 2023. To do so, it has set itself the goal of to raise $4 million in fundraising campaigns as part of its major fundraising campaign. The construction cost is estimated at approximately $5.5 million and the annual operating cost is $1.5 million.
